About This Site

Eppersons Family Research is a small reference site about American genealogy. It grew out of research into the Epperson family name, but the guides are written for anyone tracing a U.S. family line, whatever the surname.

The site has two parts. The Record Coverage Checklist is a quick self-assessment: answer a few questions about one ancestor and it tells you which of the standard record groups you have not yet searched. The guide pages each answer a single practical question — finding a census entry, requesting a vital record, locating a passenger list, checking federal land patents — and link directly to the official repositories that hold those records, such as the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the Bureau of Land Management.

An honest note about what this is: these pages are reviewed reference material written to summarize well-established research methods and point you to authoritative sources. They are not professional genealogical services, and nothing here is legal advice about inheritance, citizenship, or estate matters. When a record matters for a legal purpose, order the certified copy from the office that holds it and, if needed, talk to a professional.
